| The Graston Technique is a procedure that allows the doctor to detect and treat adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments. If left untreated, these adhesions can lead to pain and dysfunction. Many painful musculoskeletal conditions include these adhesions: if they are not addressed dysfunction and pain can often become chronic. Healthcare providers are often at a loss to find more lasting relief for these patients. After surgeries or certain kinds of injury, in the healing process, the body attempts to repair muscles, tendons and ligaments. The repair tissue is randomly applied during the healing process and often is disorganized. This can lead to incomplete recovery from the injury. The Graston Technique allows the practitioner to better detect and treat these area of pain. The stainless steel instrument glides along the muscle, tendons or ligaments and acts as a "stethescope" for detection as well as an instrument for treatment. The instrument breaks down the disorganized tissue and redirects the deep tissue structures - this restores function and organizes the original repair. Graston Technique may produce the following: 1. Local discomfort during treatment. 2. Temporary reddening of the skin. 3. Superficial tissue bruising. 4. Post treatment soreness. Graston Technique is designed to minimize discomfort: however the above reactions are normal, and in some instances unavoidable. Most important, the results are amazing and rarely achieved with other forms of conventional treatment. |
